I’m going to be doing something really special on Saturday May 2 and I hope you will too. It’s the very first ever Canadian Authors for Indies Day in support of Canada’s independent bookstores.
What makes this unique: Authors across Canada will be working at independent bookstores as guest booksellers. It’s a unique opportunity to meet authors and chat, booklover to booklover. We’ll tell you about the books we love, what’s we’re reading, and you can tell us what you’ve been reading. There will be readings, signings, and stores have special celebrations planned.
More than 100 stores and 500+ authors including bestselling authors such as Guy Gavriel Kay, Terry Fallis, Gail Vaz-Oxlade, Charles de Lint, Susan Juby, Naomi Klein, and Cathy Marie Buchanan are participating, just to name a few.
Why I’m doing this: because we want our independent bookstores to thrive. They’re essential to our communities, they are a cultural hub, they recirculate money into the local economy.
So on May 2, please visit a local independent bookstore. Come talk to us about books. Get to know the store and the regular staff. Buy some books.
Where to go: Take a look at the Authors for Indies website (www.authorsforindies.com) and look for a participating bookstore near you.
Oh, and I will be guest bookselling at Audreys Books in Edmonton from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. I would absolutely love to see you there!
